Homemade Baby Food – Sweet Potatoes

Okay, so after much consideration and talking with a few good friends, I have decided to make homemade baby food this time. I never even thought of it with Luke. I just bought everything, no coupons, no worries about price. I am always striving to be more financially responsible, plus homemade baby food is healthier (less processed).

I started today with sweet potatoes. I bought a couple of sweet potatoes for under $1.00.

Here's the recipe I used:

Baby Food – Sweet Potatoes
1) Wash sweet potatoes.
2) Poke with a fork.
3) Wrap in aluminum foil.
4) Bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour.
5) Peel.
6) Puree with some water in a food processor.

After it cooled a bit, I put a heaping tablespoon into ice cube trays and am freezing it for future use.

I am pretty excited that it was that easy and was way less expensive than traditional jarred baby food.

  1. I have found making my own baby food to be pretty easy also. I won't say that it is cheaper as I buy everything organic that is on the "dirty dozen," but I feel a lot better knowing exactly what is going into her food.

  2. I did that with Kinsey and Kerrigan at around 7 months. It was cheaper.

we skipped baby food with jackson and the twins. i just breast fed until table food at around 10 months. with jackson i just kind of fell into it b/c he ate what the girls ate, but with the twins, i actually followed the BLW philosophy and researched it more.
